Ford took 4 cars to Le Mans and all of them finished. Three of them on almost the same lap, meaning they were consistently competitive all race. That’s impressive regardless of the size of the manufacturer or how experienced the team is or what class they’re competing in or ‘oooo killed ‘oooo.

I still have no clue what BOP means but it makes me think of Star Trek.

Balance of Performance - I’m not going to pretend to know all the intricacies: in brief, it’s to ensure all cars are competitive and that one team or car doesn’t hold a significant advantage over the rest of the field, like what Mercedes AMG is going in F1 right now, or Red Bull just prior to the Mercedes domination.

I know for sure they can ask teams to adjust things like turbo pressure, air restrictors, etc. I’m not sure if they can modify weight (via ballast) in the car since I’m sure most racecars are made to hit a target weight within the regulations anyway. However, BOP is not limited to the few changes I listed here.

Basically, the Ford GT and Ferrari 488 held a power advantage which was reined in somewhat by BOP but still proved to be more powerful than competing 911 RSRs and C7Rs.

BoP does include weight adjustments.

The 488s and GTs were also the only new for 2016 cars out there. Everyone else were driving 2015 cars updated for this season’s rules. That would absolutely give Ford and Ferrari an advantage.

488s and GTs are new models this year (well, 2016 model year anyway); does that mean the C7 or 911 aren’t going to see significant changes until the next generation of road cars is available? Or is it normal for the existing chassis to be extensively updated for a coming year (i.e different powertrain, suspension parts/setup, etc.)?

I’m just thinking about 911s and how the RSRs follow their road-car counterparts; in the case of the Ford GT it’s a bit unusual that the road cars aren’t produced yet but the race car was ready to go.

I was under the impression that BOP took into consideration the previous events results. Considering the corvettes and Porsche’s pace and results, it would be no surprise that the BOP is catching up to them.

I can’t imagine a stock corvette being very competitive against a stock gt or 488. It just seems like whining that they didn’t restrict them enough. If you want spec racing, follow P2. If you want to cheer for your favorite mark then so be it. But let’s be honest, even the z06 isn’t on the level of the GT or the 488.

I realize that FIA and IMSA are different, and I admit I don’t fully understand how the BOP is calculated. But that being said, the GTE class is a sideshow and the win is a big deal but it is not THE big deal. Its not an overall win. Fords overall win count will remain the same, and so does Chevrolet’s (0).
